Meet Our Team

The PFBA committee and three paid staff are all parent carers of a children or young people who have a range of special needs and/or
disabilities. We all bring our experiences and passion for supporting and empowering other parent/carers on their journeys through the
complex world of services.

Julie

Manager

I’m Julie Bruce the manager of the PFBA. Over 30 years ago I began my journey as a parent of 2 children with special needs living in Bradford. There seemed to be no information about what to do or where to find help for my children or my family until I met other parents who had gone or were going through the same things as I was. This is where my passion about peer support comes from and has continued through my work with PFBA. Helping parent carers feel they are not alone and making sure that their voices are heard in planning and developing services. Most importantly that all the information they need to navigate this vast system is readily available.

Adele

Engagement Manager

My name is Adele Jones. I am the Engagement Manager. I have two grown up children with additional needs. My role is to connect with parents and carers and find out from them what life is really like so that we can share their voice, so it is heard and included in any systemic changes. I do this in many ways but primarily by holding peer support coffee mornings in primary schools. I am able to connect parents so that they can support each other.

I joined the Parents Forum after my children found it very difficult accessing school. I felt as though I wanted to help make things better for other parents and carers who were in the same position. I am passionate about making the environment right for children to thrive.

Mahum

Admin & Marketing

I joined the Parents’ Forum in September 2024 and manage the admin and social media for the Forum . I’m a parent to an autistic child and understand the challenges of navigating the system as a carer. I’ve worked in different industries but I’ve found my true calling making a difference through the Parents’ Forum!

I am passionate about inclusion and ensure that this is at the heart of what we do. In my spare time, I enjoy travelling with my children and also run SEND Salaam (a SEND project supporting families from minority communities).
